Community Development
LOVING OUR COMMUNITY IN THE NAME OF JESUS
We want to show God’s love through our actions as we live out knowing, loving, and serving our neighbors. We believe that God has called us to serve right in the neighborhoods around our church sites.
FOOD DRIVE
The first Sunday of each month we have a food collection to help stock the Interfaith Outreach food shelf. To donate any other items, such as clothing, bring them directly to Interfaith Outreach. For acceptable donations and greatest needs, visit Interfaith Outreach on the web.
INTERFAITH OUTREACH
We partner with a local non-profit organization called Interfaith Outreach which helps people in great need in the Plymouth area. There are many volunteer opportunities available, including helping at the food shelf and thrift store the third Wednesday of each month from 6-8pm (contact Marcia at mepederson@hotmail.com to join the team), helping with transportation needs of house-bound area residents, and mentors and teachers for Adult Learning Programs. To find out about general serving opportunities with Interfaith, contact Liz at LErstad-Hicks@iocp.org.
COMMUNITY DINNERS
Help bring and serve meals at two local apartment buildings. This is a great opportunity to share God’s love and provision with a great community of people. We also plan activities, such as Easter Egg hunts, carnivals, Christmas toy giveaways, and more. Families can serve together.
TUTORS and MENTORS
Help mentor or tutor a kids 2+ times a month, and make a difference in their future.
REFRESH FOR SINGLE MOMS
Each year around Mother’s Day, we host a pampering event for Single Moms, which includes car care, hair cuts, dinner, child care, manicures, massages, crafts and more. Volunteer opportunities: Area leads, general organizers, and team members.
THE SHERIDAN STORY: feed a child. feed the mind.
One of our partner church sites, Mill City Church, meets at Sheridan School in NE Minneapolis, where over 90% of the kids are in poverty. To help provide food for the weekend for these kids, we are sending food home in their backpacks each Friday. For $90 you can sponsor a child’s weekend food for one year, or $25 for one month. Volunteer opportunities (in NE Minneapolis): Food packing events (see calendar for upcoming times), tutoring from 3:30-4:30 one day per week, classroom helpers. Contact: Christian Ann Drummond via ca@millcitychurch.com.
RESPITE CARE
We want to help families that have children with special needs get a break for a few hours. One Friday evening each month, families bring their children to Woodridge and our respite care team helps care for the children to give them parents some time for errands, rest, and fun. To volunteer, contact Barbie at: MapleDoten@aol.com.
MOVING TEAM
Join a team of people committed to helping families and individuals in our community move when needed. We have a great time serving together! Let us know if you have an upcoming move, or would like to join the team. Contact: Tom at tom.kellenberger@gmail.com.
